In a quadrilateral ABCD, side AB is parallel to side DC. If angle A : angle D = 1: 4 and angle C: angle B = 2:3, find the measure of A and B.

∠A:∠D=1:4

∠C:∠B=2:3

Let ∠A be 1x, ∠D be 4x.

We know that AB║DC, thus using the idea that the interior angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary,

∠A+∠D=180

1x+4x=180

5x=180

x=180÷5

x=36°

Now, ∠A=1x⇒1×36⇒36° (I just substituted the value of x in 1x)

∠D=4x⇒4×36⇒144°. (I just substituted the value of x in 4x)

Thus, ∠A=36°, ∠D=144° could be possible values.
