Answer- The above question is from the chapter 'Integers'.

Integers: Natural numbers, zero and negatives of natural numbers are called integers.

. . . -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, . . . are called integers.

Set of integers is denoted by Z.

Question: In a quiz positive marks are given for correct answers and negative marks are given for incorrect answers. If Jack's scores in five successive rounds were 25, -5, -10, 15 and 10. What was his total at the end?

⇒ -5 and -10 are negative marks obtained by Jack while 25, 15 and 10 are positive marks obtained by Jack.

⇒ Total marks means the sum of all marks obtained by Jack.

Solution: Total marks obtained by Jack = 25 + (-5) + (-10) + 15 + 10

                 Collecting positive and negative integers

Total marks obtained by Jack = 25 + 15 + 10 - 5 - 10

                                                    = 50 - 15 = 35 marks

∴Total marks obtained by Jack = 35 marks.
