midway lets suppose time passed as t then first runner’s speed was 50/t and second runner’s was 49/t. now as first runner goes steady he will cover the distance to finish from midway in time interval of t. to win the second runner must cover his remaining 51 m in that interval. so if his speed becomes 51/t he will reach there at the same moment with first runner and percentage increase in speed would be

(((51/t)-(49/t))/(49/t))*100

which is equal to 200/49%

so he must increase his speed by >(200/49)%
