In a rectangle ABCD, AB=x+y, BC=x-y, CD=19cm and AD=7cm. Then find the values of x and y.

⠀ || ☆.Solution.☆ ||

Given:-

  • AB = x + y
  • BC = x - y
  • CD = 19 cm
  • AD = 7 cm

Find:-

  • Value of x and y

⠀|| ☆.Explanation.☆ ||

In rectangle ABCD ,

  • AB = CD
  • BC = DA

So,

  • x + y = 19 ...........(1)
  • x - y = 7 ............(2)

Add both of this ,

➥ 2x = 26

➥x = 26/2

➥x = 13

Now, keep value of x in equ(1)

➥13 + y = 19

➥ y = 19 - 13

➥ y = 6

Thus:-

  • Value of x = 13
  • Value of y = 6

⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❐ ...Given... ❐⠀

  • AB = x + y
  • BC = x - y
  • CD = 19 cm
  • AD = 7 cm

⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❐ ...To find... ❐⠀

⠀⠀ The values of x and y...⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❐ ...Solution... ❐⠀

⠀⠀ In rectangle ABCD...

we know that...

  • AB = CD
  • BC = DA

So...

  • x + y = 19 ______ eq 1...
  • x - y = 7 _______ eq 2...

Add both the equation 1st and 2nd...

⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀x + y = 19 ______ eq 1...

⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ x - y = 7 _______ eq 2...

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀- ⠀+ ⠀-

⠀⠀⠀___________

⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀2y = 12

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀y = 12 / 2

⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀y = 6... ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀

Now... substituting the value of y in equation 1 to find the value if x...

⠀⠀⠀⠀x + y = 19 ______ eq 1...

⠀ ⠀⠀ x + 6 = 19

⠀⠀⠀⠀x = 19 - 6

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀x = 13... ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

Therefore...

  • Value of x = 13...
  • Value of y = 6...⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
