Given:

ABCD is rectangle where:

AB = x+y

BC = x-y

CD =9

DA = 3

To Find:

x =?

y =?

Solution:

We know that opposite side are equal in rectangle, So:

AB = CD

x + y = 9

∴ x = 9 -y              ...1)

BC = DA

x - y = 3               ...2)

Putting value of x from equation 1) into equation 2):

9 - y -y =3

-2y = 3 -9

-2y = -6

∴ y =3

On putting value of y in equation 1):

x = 9 -y

x = 9 - 3

∴ x =6

Value of x and y is 6 and 3.
