in a rectangle,if the length is reduced by 5cm.and the breadth is increased by 2cm,the area is reduced by 40sq.cm.if however,the length is increased by 2cm.and the breadth by 4cm,the area is increased by 92sq.cm.Find the length and breadth of the rectangle?​

Answer:

Let the breadth be x and the length be y .

Original area =x.y

Now

length=y+5

breadth=x-5

Area=x.y-40 or x-5 × y+5

xy-40=(x-5)(y+5)

xy-40=xy+5x-5y-25

5y-5x=15

y-x=3

y=3+x

length=y-2

breadth=x+4

Area=xy92 or (x+4)(y-2)

xy+92=(x+4)(y-2)

xy+92=xy-2x+4y-8

84=4y-2x

2y=42+x

y=(42+x)÷2

3+x=(42+x)÷2

6+2x=42+x

x=42-6

x=36

y=39

Therefore length is 39cm and breadth is 36cm.
