Answer:

Explanation:

Given :

  • A rectangle length is 3cm more than breadth.
  • The area of the rectangle is 324 cm².

To Find :

  • The length and breadth of the rectangle.

Solution :

Let, breadth of a rectangle be "x".

Given, A rectangle length is 3cm more than breadth.

=> l = x + 3

According to the question,

Area of rectangle = l × b

=> 324 = (x + 3) × x

=> 324 = x² + 3x

=> x² + 3x - 324 = 0

=> x = -3 ± √3² - 4 × 1 × -324/2 × 1

=> x = -3 ± √1305/2

=> x = -3 ± 3√145/2

=> x = -3 + 3√145/2 & x = -3 - 3√145/2

=> x = 16.5 & x = -19.5

[ Note : Ignoring negative term ]

=> x = 16.5

So,

  • Length = x + 3 = 16.5 + 3 = 19.5 cm
  • Breadth = x = 16.5 cm

Hence :

The length and breadth of a rectangle is 19.5 cm and 16.5 cm respectively.
