Given:

In a rectangular garden of size 43 m by 27 m, 1.3 m wide space is left all round from inside for planting rose plants and the remaining portion of the garden is having benches for sitting

To find:

The cost of covering the flower bed with rose plants at the rate of ₹ 50 per sq m

Solution:

The dimensions of the rectangular garden including the flower bed:

Length, L = 43 m

Breadth, B = 27 m

∴ The area of the rectangular garden including the flower bed,

= L × B

= 43 × 27

= 1161 m²

The width of the space left all around from inside the garden, w = 1.3 m

The inner dimensions of the garden excluding the flower bed:

Inner length = L - 2w = 43 - (2 × 1.3) = 40.4 m

Inner breadth = B - 2w = 27 - (2 × 1.3) = 24.4 m

∴ The area of the remaining portion of the garden excluding the flower bed is,

= 40.4 × 24.4

= 985.76 m²

∴ The area of the flower bed is = 1161 m² - 985.76 m² = 175.24 m²

Now,

If the cost of covering 1 m² flower bed with rose plants = ₹ 50

Then,

The cost of covering 175.24 m² of the flower bed is,

= 175.24 m² × ₹ 50

= ₹ 8762

Thus, the cost of covering the flower bed with rose plants at the rate of ₹ 50 per sq m is → ₹ 8762.
