In a rectangular open channel, let d be the depth of flow and w be the bottom width

Hydraulic radius is given by r = Area / perimeter = (d * w ) / (2d + w)

In this case, since depth is half its width. i.e. d = w/2 = > w = 2d

= > hydraulic radius (r) = d * 2d / 4d = d/2

Hydraulic radius is half the depth of flow.
