Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let base = x cm

Therefore height= (x+ 7) cm [ since height is 7 more than base]

Hypotenuse = 13 cm

By Pythagoras theorem,

x² + (x+7)² = (13)²

=> x² + x² + 14x + 49 = 169 (by applying formula (a+b)² )

=> 2x² + 14x = 169- 49

=> 2x² + 14x - 120 = 0

Simplifying this quadratic equation

=> 2x² + 24x - 10x -120= 0

=> 2x( x + 12 ) - 10( x+ 12) = 0

=> (2x - 10) (x + 12) = 0

Therefore X + 12= 0 ; 2x - 10 = 0

x = -12 and x= 10/2 = 5

Since side cannot be negative

Therefore x = 5

Ans::-- BASE= x = 5cm

HEIGHT = x+7 = 5+7 = 12 cm

Hope this helps.
