Let base = 1x

Perpendicular = 2x

Using Pythagoras' Theorem

(Hypotenuse)² = (Base)² + (Perpendicular)²

5² = x² + (2x)²

25 = x² + 4x²

25 = 5x²

25/5 = x²

x² = 5

x = √5

x = 2.236

Base = 2.236 cm

Perpendicular = 2 × 2.236 = 4.472 cm

Hope it helps.

Given: \:  \:  △ABC \:  \:  is \:  \:  a \:  \:  right \:  \:  angled \:  \:  triangle.

  Hypotenuse AC=5cm

    and AB:BC=1:2

⇒ AB=1x,BC=2x

In \:  \:  right \:  \:  angled △ABC,

By  \:  \: pythagoras  \:  \: theorem

AC²=AB²+BC²

⇒5²=(1x)²+(2x)²

⇒25=x²+4x²

⇒25=5x²

⇒x=5

Hence, AB=1x=1×√5=√5cm

BC=2x=2×√5=25cm
