In a right-angled triangle ABC, right-angled at B, AB=12CM, BC=5CM, find the corresponding altitude to the hypotenuse.

Here, P = AB = 12 cm, B = BC = 5 cm and

H = AC = ?

By using Pythagoras theorem, we have

∴ H² = B² + P²

∴ AC² = BC² + AB²

AC² = 5² + 12²

AC² = 25 + 144

AC² = 169

AC = √169

AC = 13 cm
