The figure of Right angle triangle is given in attachment.

According to the question,

AC = Hypotenuse = 5 cm

BC = Base = 3 cm

AB = Perpendicular = ?

By Pythagoras theorem,

(AC)² = (AB)² + (BC)²

⇒5² = AB² + 3²

⇒25 = AB² + 9

⇒25 - 9 = AB²

⇒ 16 = AB²

⇒ AB =√16

⇒ AB = ± 4

Side cannot be negative

AB = 4 cm

Additional information:

  • Pythagoras theorem named after Greek philosopher Pythagoras is a theorem used for measuring the sides of right angle triangle.
  • This theorem is used as a base in trigonometry.
  • This theorem holds good for only right angle triangle and not other triangles
