In a RL circuit shown in the figure resistance R=30ohm, reactance R=40ohm and peak emf = 220V.
calculate: a)Impedance
b) phase difference
c) the peak value of the current in the circuit. ​

Solution:

(a) Impedance (Z):

  • Z = \sqrt{R^2+X_{L} ^2}

             =\sqrt{30^2+40^2}

  • Z = 50 ohm

(b) Phase difference (Ф)

  • cos Ф = \frac{R}{Z} = \frac{30}{50}

  • Ф = cos^{-1} (0.6)

(c) Peak current (I):

  • As per Ohm's law: V=IZ

        ⇒ I = \frac{V}{Z} = \frac{220}{50}

  • I = 4.4 A
