SOLUTION

Given,

In a Shop reduces all its prices by 15%

1).The cost of an article which was originally priced at Rs.40

Reduce = 15\% \: of \: 40 \\  \\  =  >  \frac{15}{100}  \times 40 \\  \\  =  > Reduce = Rs.6

Finally reduced

=) Rs.40 - Rs.6

=) Rs.34

2).The original price of an article which was sold for Rs.20.40.

Selling price = Rs.20.40 [given]

d= 15% [reduce]

Let the original price= Rs.x

So,

x =  \frac{(s.p \times 100)}{(100 - d)}  \\  \\  =  > x =  \frac{20.40 \times 100}{100 - 15}  \\  \\  =  > x =  \frac{2040}{85}  \\  \\  =  > x = 24

Required original price x= Rs.24

Hope it helps ☺️

\mathfrak{\huge{\red{ANSWER}}}

Reduce = 15% of Rs 40 = 0.15 x 40 = Rs 6

Price after reduced = Rs 40 - Rs 6 = Rs 36

Answer: Rs 36

Question (ii):

Reduce = 15% x 20.40 = 0.15 x 20.40 = Rs 3.60

Price after reduced = Rs 20.40 - Rs 3.60 = Rs 17.34

Answer: Rs 17.34
