In a school , 5/8 of the students are boys and their are 240 girls. Find the total number of boys in the school

Fraction of boys = 5/8

Fraction of girls = 1 - 5/8 = 3/8

Let the total number of students be x

So, girls = 3/8 × x
240 = 3/8 × x
x = 240×8/3 = 640

Number of boys = 5/8 of 640
= 5/8 × 640
= 400

Let the total number of students in school be 'x'
Now, boys will be = 5/8*x = 5x/8
therefore, 240+5x/8 = x
on transposing 5x/8 to RHS
                 240 = x - 5x/8
             8*240 = 8x-5x
               640 = x
HENCE, number of boys in school are 5x/8 = 5*640/8 = 400
