total marks scored by boys =
85 \times 40 = 3400
total marks scored by girls =
35 \times 60 = 2100
so total marks scored =5500
and total no. of student=120
the mean =
 \frac{5500}{120}
I.e. 45.8333

Answer:

mean marks for 85 boys = 40%

Sum of all the marks for the 86 boys = 40 x 85 = 3400%

mean marks for 35 girls = 60%

Sum of all the marks for the 35 girls = 60 x 35 = 2100%

Total number of students = 85 + 35 = 120 students

Total marks = 3400 + 2100 = 5500%

Average marks = 5500 ÷ 120 = 45.8%

Answer: The average percentage of the school is 45.8%
