90 % of x passed in english

90x/100
85 % of x passed in mathematics

No. of students passed in both = 150

Total percentage = students passed in maths + students passed in english - passed in both

100x/100% =85x/100 + 90x/100-150

x = 0.85x +0.9x -150

150 = 0.85x+0.9x -x

150 = 0.75x

150/0.75 = x

200 = x

so the total students are 200
