 Let \: number \: boys \: in \:a \:school = b

 Number \:of \:girls = b + 42

 \blue{ Total \: number \:of \:students = 534 }

 (given)

 b + (b+42) = 534

 \implies 2b + 42 = 534

 \implies 2b = 534 - 42

 \implies 2b = 492

 \implies b = \frac{492}{2}

 \implies b = 246

Therefore.,

\red{ Number \:of \:boys} \green { = 246}

\red{ Number \:of \: girls} \\= b + 42\\= 246+42\\\green{ = 288 }
