Given : In a seminar 15% of registered delegates were  absent and 20% fell ill out of those who were  present. If the total number of delegates who  successfully completed the seminar is 544

To find : how  many delegates had registered for the seminar?

Solution:

Let say Number of Delegated registered for seminar  =  100D

15% of registered delegates were   absent

=> Absent = (15/100) 100D  = 15D

Delegates Presents = 100D - 15D = 85 D

Delegates fell ill  = 20 %  = (20/100) 85D   = 17D

Delegates successfully completed the seminar  = Present -  ill

= 85D - 17D

= 68D

68D  = 544

=> D  =  8

100D = 800

800 delegates had registered for the seminar
