There are 2 types of combination of resistor - Series and Parallel
=> Imagine 3 Resistors of resistance R1 , R2 and R3 connected in series to a cell of potential diffrence V . As the resistors are in series then the current ' I ' through each resistor is same .
By ohm's law :-
• V1 = IR1
• V2 = IR2
• V3 = IR3
Total potential V = V1 + V2 + V3
=> V = IR1 + IR2 + IR3
Let Re be equivalent resistance .
V = IRe
Therefore :- IRe = IR1 + IR2 + IR3
»» Re = R1 + R2 + R3
Thus in series combination the equivalent resistance is simply the sum of individual resistor .
