Given:

  • The ratio of apples to pears is 2:5
  • The number of pears = 60

To find:

  • The number of apples

So,

Let the number of apples be 2x

And the number of pears be 5x

Thus,

Number of pears = 5x = 60

→ x = 60 ÷ 5

[By transporting 5 to RHS]

→ x = 12

So,

The value of x is 12

Now,

The number of apples is = 2x

The number of apples is = 2*12

The number of apples is = 24

Hence,

The number of apples is 24

Cᴀʟᴄᴜʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ :

Since,

  • The ratio of apples to pears = 2 : 5.

\begin{gathered}\begin{gathered}\bf \:Let -  \begin{cases} &\sf{number \: of \: apples \: be \: 2x} \\ &\sf{number \: of \: pears \: be \: 5x} \end{cases}\end{gathered}\end{gathered}

\begin{gathered}\begin{gathered}\bf \:To \: find - \begin{cases} &\sf{number \: of \: apples}  \end{cases}\end{gathered}\end{gathered}

Now,

According to statement,

  • Number of pears = 60

So,

\rm :\implies\:5x \:  =  \: 60

\rm :\implies\:x \:  =  \: 12

So,

  • Number of apples = 2x = 2 × 12 = 24
