The probability of  getting a sum of 5 would be 1/36 and probability of getting a sum of at most 5 would be 5/108 .

When we throw three dice at once, we can have

6*6*6 = 216 possible outcomes.

The sum on the top faces would range from 3-18

1) The possible outcomes for getting a sum of 5 is:

1,1,3   1,3,1    1,2,2   2,1,2     2,2,1    3,1,1

Hence total favorable outcomes are: 6

Probability of getting a sum of 5 would be : 6/216 = 1/36

2) The possible outcomes of getting at most a sum of 5 would include outcomes of getting sum 3, getting sum 4 and getting sum 5 :

1,1,1      1,2,1     1,1,2     2,1,1     1,1,3   1,3,1    1,2,2   2,1,2     2,2,1    3,1,1

Total favorable outcomes : 10

probability of getting a sum of at most 5 would be : 10/216 = 5/108
