So,

AB = BC = CD = DA

∴ AB = BC

∴ (5a - 17) = (2a + 4)

5a - 2a = 4 + 17

3a = 21

∴ a = \frac{21}3

a = 7

∴ BC = (2a + 4)cm

         = [2(7) + 4]cm

         = (14 + 4)cm

   BC = 18cm

Since AB = BC = CD = AD,

AD = BC = 18cm
