length of one diagonal is 16cm.
we notice that the two sides of length "a" unit each and the diagonal make a right angled triangle.

so by Pythagoras theorem

a²+a²=16²
2a²=144
a²=144/2
=72
so,
a=√72

We know that the diagonal of a square is root 2a where :
a is a side , Given
root 2a = 16
squaring both sides
 {2a }^{2}  = 256 {cm }^{2}
 {a}^{2}  = 256 \div 2 {cm}^{2}
 {a}^{2}  = 128 {cm}^{2}
a =  \sqrt{128 {cm}^{2} }
a =  \sqrt{64 \times 2cm}
a =  \sqrt[8]{2cm \:}  \: ans
