Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of men be x.

Let the number of horses be y.

Since both horse and man have only 1 head, so,

x + y = 22 [Equation 1]

Horse has 4 feet while man has 2 feet, so,

2x + 4y = 72

x + 2y = 36 [Equation 2]

Subtracting eq 1 from 2,

y = 14

From 1,

x + y = 22

x = 8

Therefore,

number of man = 8

number of horses = 14
