Given : A submarine equipped with SONAR,

the time interval between generation of wave and reception of its echo after reflection from the enemy submarine is  40s.

the speed of ultrasonic waves in sea water is 1450m/s,

To Find : the distance of enemy submarine

Solution:

Let say distance of enemy submarine  = d  m

Then total distance covered by wave = d + d = 2d m

Speed = 1450 m/s

time = 40 sec

Distance = Speed * time

=> 2d = 1450 * 40

=> d = 1450 * 20

=> d = 29000 m

1000 m = 1 km

=> d = 29 km

Hence the distance of enemy submarine  is 29 km
