Given:

In a survey of 200 ladies, it was found that 142 like coffee while 58 dislike it

To find:

Find the probability that lady has chosen at random number one like the coffee number to dislike coffee

Solution:

Number of ladies = 200

Number of ladies who like coffee = 142

Number of ladies who dislike coffee = 58

Consider E₁ as the event that the selected ladies like coffee

Thus we have P (E₁) = number of ladies who like coffee/ number of trials

Upon substituting the values

P (E₁) = 142/ 200

⇒ P (E₁) = 0.71

Consider E₁ as the event that the selected ladies dislike coffee

Thus we have P (E₂) = number of ladies who dislike coffee/ number of trials

Upon substituting the values P (E₂) = 58/ 200

⇒ P (E₂) = 0.29

Number of ladies liking coffee = 0.71

Number of ladies dis-liking coffee = 0.29
