In a Thermite reaction, a compound of iron reacts with a metal:-

c. Fe2O3 + 2Al ------- Al2O3 + 2Fe , here Fe is produced in molten state because a lot of heat is given out which melts there itself the iron produced. The most common use of this reaction is that this reaction is used in combining the railway tracks or cracked machinery parts.
