in a town election raghu and rajeev were two candidate for a certain position. Raghu won by 1000 votes if rajeev had got 25% more votes with th number of cast votes remaining unchanged the raghu would have won by only200 votes.
if only 70% of total recognised voters cast their votes then find the no of recognised voters in town

Answer:

Number of recognised voters = 6000

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of recognised voters = R

Voters that cast the votes C = 70% of R = 0.7R

Raghu won by 1000 votes.

Let the votes of Raghu = X, and votes of Rajeev = Y

∴ we know that,

X + Y = C = 0.7R .... (1)

&

X - Y = 1000 ....(2)

If Rajeev got 25% more votes, we can write the equations as

(X-25%Y) - (Y+25%Y) = 200

X - Y - 0.25Y + 0.25Y = 200,

But from eqn (2), X-Y = 1000

∴ 1000 - 0.5Y = 200

∴ 0.5Y = 1000 - 200

∴ 0.5Y = 800

∴ Y = 1600   ...(3)

substituting in (2),

X- 1600 = 1000

∴ X = 2600  ...(4)

Substituting in eqn1...

X + Y = 0.7 R

∴ 0.7R = 2600 + 1600

∴ 0.7R = 4200

∴ R = 4200÷ 0.7

∴ R = 6000

Number of recognised voters = 6000
