9% of 8000 = 8000 × 9/100

= 720

now let men were x

therefore women were 8000-x

now increase in men are , 10%of x

= 10x /100

= x /10

now increase in women are , 8%of (8000 - x)

= 8/100(8000-x)

= 64000 /100 - 8x /100

= 640 - 2x / 25

now, x /10 + 640 - 2x / 25 = 720

x /10 - 2x / 25 = 720 -640

25x - 20x /250 = 80

5x = 80 * 250

x = 80 * 250 /5

x = 4000

therefore 4000 males were

4000 women were

increased males = 400
increased females =320
