Summary of 'In a tunnel' by E.Nesbit :

• The story, In the tunnel is about an 11 years old boy named Jerry who goes to the beach with his mother on vacation.

• He is a calm and collected person. He never raises his voice and likes to meet new people.
• He tries to impress several boys by trying to swim through a tunnel.
• When Jerry sees them swimming, he decides to ask them if he can join them. But he realizes that the boys don’t speak his language therefore he tries to talk to them in French.
• To impress the boys he tried to swim through a dark tunnel, but he had to come back because he became afraid.
• As he came back he saw the boys making fun of him. After that he decided to prove himself so after the boys would leave in the afternoon, he would stay and work on his breathing and concentrated on going through the tunnel.
• On the last day he passes through the tunnel and his life flashes before his eyes.
