This is a proportion.

Km to liters.

43.2km is to 2.4 l as x km is to 1 l

as an equation this is:

43.2/2.4 = x/1

x= 43.2/2.4= 18 km per liter

We now know how much distance we get for every liter of petrol so for 12 liters we could set up another proportion as in

43.2/2.4 = x/12

or we could simply take the 18 km/l and multiply it by 12 liters... 18(12) = 216 km

note: we get the same answer if we work the proportion...

43.2/2.4 = x/12

2.4x = 43.2(12)

x = 43.2(12)/2.4 = 216 km

Hey there! :)

Distance covered by the vehicle in 2.4 lts of petrol = 43.2 km

Therefore, distance the vehicle covers in 1 lt of petrol = 43.2÷ 2.4

= 18 km

Ans: The vehicle covers a distance of 18 km in 1 litre of petrol.

Hope helped!
