in a village, 60% of registered voters cast their vote in a election. there are only 2 candidates A and B. A won by 600 votes. if B received 40% more votes of what he actually received , the election would be a tie. how many registered voters are there in the village?

Let B got x number of votes.

→ Number of votes received by A = x + 600

 

If B received 40% more votes the result would have been a tie.  

B = 1.4x

 

→ 1.4x = x + 600 - 0.4x

→ 0.8x = 600

→      x = 750

 

Number of votes received by A = x + 600 = 750 + 600= 1350

 

According to the condition in the question, we get

60y/100 = 1350 + 750

→ y = 3500

So, there are 3500 registered voters in the village.
