Let the number of men in a village is x.

∴ Number of Women = 89 + x

Number of Children = 400 + x

Now, total number of men + women + children = 4989

∴ x + 89 + x + 400 + x = 4989

⇒ 3x + 489 = 4989

∴ 3x = 4989 - 489

⇒ 3x = 4500

∴ x = 1500

∴ Number of men in a village is 1500.

Number of Women = 89 + 1500 = 1589

Number of Children = 400 + 1500 = 1900

Hope it helps.

Acc to the question, the number of women is 89 more than the number of men.

Let the number of men be N.

Then number of women will be N + 89.

Also it is said that number of children is 400 more than the number of men,

i.e. the number of children will be N + 400.

The total population of the village is 4989.

We can write, N + (N + 89) + (N + 400) = 4989.

or, 3N + 489 = 4989.

or, 3N = 4500

or, N = 1500.

Therefore,

number of men = 1500.

number of women = 1589

number of children = 1900.
