Answer

Given :

A well shuffled pack of 52 cards.

To find :

Find the probability of :

(1)Red card

(2)Diamond card

(3) king

(4) Jack of spads

Solution :

Total number of cards = 52

Total number of all possible outcomes = 52

1) Number of red cards = 26

Number of favourable outcomes = 26

We know that

Probability of an event = P(E)

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes

Probability of getting a Red card =

P(R) = 26/52

P(R) = 1/2

2) Number of diamond cards = 13

Number of favourable outcomes =13

We know that

Probability of an event = P(E)

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes

Probability of getting a Diamond card =

P(D) = 13/52

P(D) = 1/4

3)

Number of king cards = 4

Number of favourable outcomes =4

We know that

Probability of an event = P(E)

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes

Probability of getting a king card=

P(K) = 4/52

P(K) = 1/13

4)Number of jack of spades cards = 1

Number of favourable outcomes =1

We know that

Probability of an event = P(E)

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes

Probability of getting a jack of spades=

P(J) = 1/52

Answer :

1) Probability of getting a Red card = 1/2

2)Probability of getting a Diamond card =1/4

3)Probability of getting a king card= 1/13

4)Probability of getting a jack of spades= 1/52

Used formula:

Probability of an event = P(E)=

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes
