Given :  , the first-place winner receives ½ of the prize money. The second runner up receives ¼ of what the winner won.  winner receives Rs. 6,000

To find :   the total amount of prize money distributed

Solution:

Let say Prize money  =  P

The first-place winner receives ½ of the prize money.

=> 1st Place winner received = P/2

winner receives Rs. 6,000

=> P/2 = 6000

=> P = 12000  Rs

=>  the total amount of prize money distributed = Rs 12000

second runner up receives ¼ of what the winner won = 6000/4 = 1500

=> first runner up received = 12000 - 6000 - 1500 = 4500 Rs
