Answer :

Wavelength of light = 6000Å

Distance b/w slits = 0.4mm

Distance b/w slits and screen = 1.2m

We have to find the separation of fringes or fringe width.

Fringe width is the distance between two maxima of successive order on one side of the central maxima. This is also equal to distance between two successive minima.

  • β = λ D/d

Notice that it is directly proportional to wavelength and inversely proportional to the distance between the two slits.

By substituting the given values,

➝ β = λ D/d

➝ β = (6000×10‾¹⁰)(1.2)/(0.4×10‾³)

➝ β = 18 × 10‾⁴

β = 1.8 mm
