let rabbit be x and pigeons be y
According to first condition ,
x + y = 340 ...... (i)
rabbits have four legs and pigeons two
According to the second condition,
4x + 2y = 1060
2x + y = 530 .... (ii)... (dividing throughout by2)
subtracting i and ii
x + y = 340
2x + y = 530
(-) (-) (-)
--------------------------
-x = -190
x = 190
substituting x = 190 in ( i)
x+ y = 340
190 + y = 340
y = 340 - 190
y = 150
Hence there are 150 pigeons
