We can use the phythagoras theorem i.e.

p²+b²=h²

p=AB=12cm

b=BC=9cm

h²=AC

putting p=12cm

putting p=12cm b=9cm

=12²+9²=h

=144+81=h²

=225=h²

=√225=h²

=h²=15

therefore AC=15cm.
