The area of rectangle of lenth 18cm and breadth 12cm = 12 x 18 = 216

there are four right angled triangle

area of right triangle 1

base b= 18cm and height h = 7cm and area = 1/2(b x h) = 1/2(18 x 7) =63cm^2

base b= 12cm and height h = 10cm and area = 1/2(b x h) = 1/2(12 x 10) =60cm^2

base b= 8cm and height h = 5cm and area = 1/2(b x h) = 1/2(8 x 5) =20cm^2

total area of these three triangle = 63 + 60 + 20 =143cm^2

therefore the area of shaded region = area of rectangle -sum of  area of triangles

=216 - 143= 73cm^2
