ii. 2y2 – 5y + 10 = 0

iii. √2 x2 + 4x + 2√2 = 0

Solution:

i. x2 +7 x – 1 = 0

Comparing the above equation with

ax2 + bx + c = 0, we get

a = 1, b = 7, c = -1

∴ b2– 4ac = (7)2 – 4 × 1 × (-1)

= 49 + 4

∴ b2 – 4ac = 53
