Given : in an alcohol solution of 5 liters the concentration of alcohol is 40 %.

To Find :  to make the alcohol 15% concentrated how much liters of water must be added.

Solution:

Solution = 5 liters

concentration of alcohol is 40 %.

=> Alcohol = (40/100) 5  = 2 liter

Let say x liter water is added

Then Solution = 5 + x  liter

Alcohol  =  2 litre

alcohol 15% concentrated

=> (15/100) (5 + x)  = 2

=>   5 + x = 200/15

=> x = 200/15  - 5

=> x = 40/3 - 5

=> x  =25/3

Hence  25/3   liters of water to be added
