Question :- In an alloy, copper and zinc are mixed in a ratio 5:3 by weight. If weight of a block of alloy is 4.8 kg, find the weight of copper in it. ?

Solution :-

Let us Assume that, Copper and zinc mixed in the alloy are 5x kg and 3x kg.

Than,

→ Total weight of a block of alloy = Copper + Zinc

Putting values we get,

→ 5x + 3x = 4.8

→ 8x = 4.8

Dividing both sides by 8, we get,

→ x = 0.6kg.

Therefore,

weight of copper = 5x = 5 * 0.6 = 3 kg. (Ans.)
