question :-

In an alloy of brass the ratio of copper to zinc is 9:7. In 64 kg of such a quality of brass if 4 kg of copper and 2 kg of zinc be added then find the new ratio of copper to zinc.

Answer :

Given,

Weight of zinc in the alloy =9.8kg

The ratio of copper and zinc in an alloy =9:7.

Let,

Weight of copper =9x

Weight of zinc =7x

9.8=7x

x=1.4kg

∴ Weight of copper in the alloy =9x

=9(1.4)

=12.6kg
