In an AP , if the common difference (d)=-4,and the seventh term (a7) is 4 ,then find the first term.

Seventh term = 4

We know that ,

a7 = a +6d

4 = a + 6(-4)

4 = a -24

a = 24+4

a =28

Now,

a₇ = a + 6d                                                            (aₓ = a + (x-1)d)

4 = a + 6(-4)

a = 4 + 24

a = 28
