In an AP, what is the difference between 'a' and 'an' ( 'n' subscript)

The difference is that a is used for consonants e.g. He is writing with a pen.

"an" is used for vowels in exception for a "u" but not in all cases e.g. He is eating an apple. You cant say an university but you can say a university.

But, "an" can also be used for a silent "h" e.g. an hour, you cant say a hour.
