In an aqua theme park, boats were used in a particular water ride. The speed of the boat against the stream is 3kmph and the speed of the
boat along the stream is 7kmph. Calculate the speed of the boat in still water.

Given :- The speed of the boat against the stream is 3kmph and the speed of the boat along the stream is 7kmph.

To Find :- Calculate the speed of the boat in still water.

Answer :-

Let us assume that,

  • speed of boat in still water = x km/h .
  • speed of current = y km/h .

so,

→ Speed of boat along the stream = 7km/h

→ x + y = 7 --------- Eqn.(1)

and,

→ Speed of boat against the stream = 3km/h

→ x - y = 3 --------- Eqn.(2)

Adding Eqn.(1) and Eqn.(2) we get,

→ x + y + x - y = 7 + 3

→ 2x = 10

→ x = 5 km/h (Ans.)
