in an area in which forest was cut to make a city it was found that the water table went down what could be the reasons for this?​

the water table in that area went down because we know that the trees help in bringing rainfall,when city was build the percentage of rainfall went down. And also when the rainfall occurs ,the water just flows away through roads ,and thus not absorbed by soil .So,the water table went down.
