So, first let’s understand from the scratch. What is the number of handshakes a single person can make with himself? 0 right? Quite simple.huh?

Now, let’s move to two people. They can successfully make a handshake right? So, 2 people can make 1 handshake.

Let’s move on to next number. What if there are three people? How many handshakes are possible now? It will be 3 handshakes. See that Mr.1 can handshake with Mr.2 and Mr.3. While Mr.2 can give a handshake to only Mr.3 right? And Mr.3 can’t give any handshakes. (Well, he already gave handshakes to other 2 and we have considered it before itself).
